Hi, friends (my dear mentees) ,
Today I have finished up a big outside project (outside NUS), meaning I can earn some $ from it. Not a lot, but definitely better than nothing, rite?
Haha, have been stressed by it for quite long, the main reason is that I procrastinate a bit. I like to read books, all sorts of books. So I keep dragging adn dragging until one day my partner told me that if I do not finish it up, I will be fined, you hear it, FINE!!!
But now, once i have completed it, i feel much better and relieved. Now, i can focus on my studies and my due assignments.
Here, for this post, I intend to let my mentees to know who I am, and try to know one another better. You all know that i am the coordinator for BMSS, just last what wuyou did last time. But for me, I am more focused on helping my mentees to score in school and hence build up their confidence from there.
I have experinced this before, like if i could not do well in school, i felt bad, felt like giving up last time when i first came to singapore, studying in Dunman High School Hostel. My english is the poorest among all, and i struggled lot. However, one day, i decided to end my own miserable situation, not my life, haha...... so i thought if my foundation is poorer than the rest, all i need is to spend more time on my work than others. others may have parties to go and computer games to play, i shall focus, bring my grade up first before i start to explore i really want. So, you can imagine, slowly, one day, study one or two hours longer than the rest. It is not easy, coz i do not have mentors to tell me what i shall do, the only force driving me is that if i don't study hard, my scholarhship will be gone. that will be the end of my life. So, after 4 months hardwork, i studies biology from scratch in the later half of my sec 4, in the end, i scored A2 for it, compared with my usualy C6 or Ds.
Any way, I have lots of past sad experiences with you all. After readig, studying, mixing with nice friends, and self-reflection, I have come to where I am now. The decision of joining the BP mentoring program is made by myself. I want to help my students excel in their studies. In fact, i have 4 private students , one in pri 5, one in sec 2, one in sec 3, one in sec 4. I teach them science and maths. Currently they are all doing well. They are all very hardworking and willing to learn. I am a person who likes sharing emotions. So I tell them how i survived O Levels and a levels, this can assure them that they can do it as well, especially they have me as their tutor, haha... Sometimes, I do learn things from them. Just like munyee, she helped me do the blog skin, and i myself have tried very long, and got nowhere, but mun yee only spent less than 1 hours to do such a good job! I have to learn from her how she actually did it. Haha....that's why we need to communicate and learn from one another. No body is perfect. If your friend is down or has very negative feelings, do lend a listening ear and try to accompany them when they are down. This is called true friendship.
After seeing all the male mentees want to call Justin GOD brothers, i envy him. And also happy for you all, as you all have found your buddy.
For those who was once metored under me, do give me your feedback. If you are happy with my approaching, then i will be SUPER happy, as my purpose of joining this cca and meet you all every saturday is to bring my mentees' grade to A's, if you cooperate with me. My greatest satisfaction comes when you understand a new topic because my explanation. Haha... Do keep your work, any one who need recommendations of reference books, drop me an email, i will get back to u shortly.
Well, keep coming back to my blog, i will share more with you in my next post.
Do stay tuned, i shall see you all on Saturday.
cheers,
xiaoli
Hi, everyone,
He he, just woke up... and thought that maybe I can be help in the area of recommending books to my friends, you all, who are studying in secondory school still. ;)
Well, if you really want to do more exercise to brush up your skills and reinforce your understanding in the subject matter, there are always some good books on the book shelf to serve you. I can recommend a few good ones to you.
Why do I have the right to do so? Coz I have had many private tuition students, they bought so many books, and we went through many books. By now, I am fairly confident of which one will help you excel and which one will not.
Well, feel free to drop me an email and I will tell you. My email address is huoxiaoli2001@hotmail.com
cheers, everyone~~
